DPA Modular Microphone Capsules (MMC Series) DPA’s modular design allows you to swap MMC (Capsules) onto different MMP (Preamplifiers), giving you flexibility without buying entirely new microphones. The “Reference” Standard (4000 Series): MMC4011 (Cardioid): The worldwide reference standard. Completely uncolored and natural. Ideal for music and general spot miking. MMC4015 (Wide Cardioid): It offers a broader pickup pattern than a standard cardioid, making it ideal for capturing sound sources that are slightly spread out or for when you want a touch more ambient “room” sound without losing control. MC4017 (Shotgun): Highly directional with excellent off-axis rejection. The go-to choice for film/TV boom operators. MMC4018 (Supercardioid): Tighter focus than the 4011 but wider than the shotgun. Perfect for dialogue, interviews, and isolated sources. MMC4006 (Omnidirectional): Extremely linear and natural. Used mostly for orchestral recordings, ambient beds, and acoustic measurements. The Twin Diaphragm Series (2000 Series): These capsules use two miniature diaphragms arranged back-to-back to combine the fast transient response of a small capsule with the fuller character of a large diaphragm. MMC2011 (Cardioid): Offers a focused, clear sound with a slightly different “flavor” than the 4011. It is often favored for live stages and instruments for its blend of definition and body. MMC2006 (Omnidirectional): Provides a very balanced and natural sound. It is a versatile, high-performance alternative to the 4006, often used where the absolute laboratory precision of the 4006 isn’t strictly required. All these capsules are fully compatible with DPA’s preamplifiers, such as the MMP-A (Standard) and MMP-C(Compact).
